BEELZEBUFO
Currently the largest frog ever discovered, measuring 16 inches in length, and weighing 10 pounds, Beelzebufo ampinga (bee-L-za-bufo am-ping-a) was a native to the island of Madagascar during the late Cretaceous period (70 mya).
So far, little fossils of Beelzebufo are known. The picture above shows the currently known fossil materials in blue. The rest of the skeleton is based either on mirror imaging, or comparative anatomy.
The living Beezlebufo shared its habitat with a variety of creatures, including large dinosaurs and giant land crocodiles. It also lived along side the bird relative Anchiornis huxleyi. It is possible that Beezlebufo would have preyed upon Anchiornis. Other prey of Beezlebufo might have included the young of Majungasaurus, a large carnivorous dinosaur.
Extinction
It is likely that Beezlebufo went extinct with the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous period 65 mya. With the large shifts in climate that occurred during this event, Beezlebufo's habitat changed faster than the organisms living there could adapt.
