National Book Lovers Day

Many books have been written about dinosaurs in a variety of forms. Some feature dinosaurs in comical roles, while other books portray them bloodthirsty as monsters. In this article, I will be showcasing some of the best dinosaur books that I have read.

#4: How  Do  Dinosaurs...

Instantly recognizable, the How Do Dinosaurs book series feature dinosaurs and other prehistoric reptiles demonstrating appropriate behavior in situations familiar to young children such as making friends, cleaning your room, and attending school. Written by Jane Yolen and illustrated by Mark Teague, these books can be found in the showcase positions in the children's section of libraries.

#5: The  Lost  World

Possibly the oldest dinosaur book ever written, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel The Lost World was written in a time when dinosaurs were viewed in a fashion that contrasts starkly with our view of dinosaurs today.

#3: Dinosailors, All  Aboard  the  Dinotrain, and  Dinosoaring

A very fun series of books, their stories are told through a combination of rhyming text and wonderful illustrations.

#2: Jurassic  Park  and  The  Lost  World

Possibly the two most famous dinosaur books ever written, Jurassic Park and The Lost World by Michael Crichton were made famous when Steven Spielberg made both of them into hit films. Sadly, like most books that are turned into movies, the film adaptations of the books are a far cry from the books in the areas of story, characters, and dinosaurs.

#1: Dinotopia

The Dinotopia book series by James Gurney is one of the best looking dinosaur book series ever made. A wonderful story with good values is supplemented by beautiful artwork, depicting dinosaurs as they appeared before feathers were widely accepted. The series was so popular that in 2002, Hallmark Entertainment decided to make a mini-series based off of the books.
